Wet leasing is also commonly referred to as an ACMI lease, the ACMI acronym standing for: Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance.

Aircraft: The type of aircraft being leased, i.e. 737-800. The lessee is usually a little more flexible (than in the case of a dry lease) in terms of which types will be acceptable, due to the relatively short duration of the lease, market availability and the fact that all direct aircraft operations are handled by the lessor.

Crew: This will typically include full flight-deck crew and complete maintenance crew. Cabin crew can vary from none to all, depending on the length of the lease, with the most common application to include the lead cabin attendant only. The phrase 'Damp Lease' is also commonly used if the lessee supplies a full cabin crew.

Maintenance: Includes full maintenance of the aircraft, line maintenance, all light to heavy scheduled checks and unscheduled requirements.

Insurance: Aircraft hull and third party liability insurance is commonly included in the ACMI lease contract.

There are numerous situations that inspire the leasing of aircraft under ACMI / Wet Lease terms, some of which include:

  • Seasonal capacity increase
  • Relief of existing aircraft while under maintenance
  • Fleet flexibility
  • Bridging time while waiting for new aircraft to be delivered from the factory
  • Operational bridging for airlines looking to operate new types of aircraft

This ever-increasing concept continues to evolve every year with new and exciting applications, including some airlines that opt to have their entire fleet operated under ACMI / Wet Lease contracts.

In this respect, Nova Aviation has laid the foundation that will enable us to continue being a leading source for present and future ACMI / Wet Lease contracts.
